Dan Negrelli, of Canton, was an educator at A.I. Prince Technical High School in Hartford, where he taught computer applications and hiking. The 53-year-old was a husband and father.

The Connecticut Technical Education and Career System released a statement following news of his death.

"We are heartbroken by the passing of Dan Negrelli, a beloved member of our school community. He was an exceptional educator and a cherished mentor, colleague, and friend. Dan made a lasting impact both in and out of the classroom, touching the lives of students and staff in countless ways. This is a tremendous loss for our school, and our thoughts are with his family, friends, and all who knew him. Grief counselors will be available to support students and staff during this difficult time."

The Salt Lake Tribune reported that Negrelli was skiing at Solitude Mountain Resort in Big Cottonwood Canyon, Utah, when he crashed into a pine tree at high speed. Ski patrol discovered his body around 1:15 p.m. at the bottom of Middle Slope, the report said.

Dozens posted memorials to Negrelli on social media after his passing. They wrote how his wit, dedication to his friends and family, and passion for the outdoors made him easy to like.

"Dan Negrelli, you were a good friend, father, patroller, teacher, husband, and an all-around good man! I will miss our chats about patrol, our kids, our neighbors, skiing, carpentry, and so much more. Always a smile and always a pleasure! I will miss you, my friend. RIP," Joe Grasso posted on Facebook.

Others used his passing as a reminder to cherish life.

"Folks—please hold your family tight and cherish the time together," Audrey Ahmetovic posted, sending condolences to Negrelli's wife and child. "Accidents do not discriminate."

No funeral arrangements had been released as of press time.
